Scottish Art - Paintings of Scotland:
Stones of Stenness Fairies
by D. Bruce Bennett
Moonlight Fairies' Dance
Can you tell what Bruce's bedtime reading was, shortly before he began this painting? An old book written in the 1600s about Scottish fairies. As a result, he painted this surrealistic picture of Scotland - the Stones of Stenness - in a radical departure from his usual photo-realistic style and his gentle watercolor-style landscapes.

Done in a light-handed, oil-painting style, this picture of Scotland gives Scottish fairy tale lovers something to ponder. Light-filled fairies dance in and among small orbs of light and the ancient Standing Stones of Stenness.
Scottish folklore sometimes identifies the Stones of Stenness as the "Temple of the Moon," so Bruce has provided some moonlight. It cuts a swath through blue-green sky, providing fairies with a highway to heaven after the dance - or not - depending on what your imagination can conjure.
This piece of Scottish Art sold at our local highland games, no doubt to a customer with a penchant for Scottish folklore and a vivid imagination. But we're guessing she also had a blue color scheme. If you'd like a similar picture of Scotland but perhaps in a different color scheme - or the same - please check out our commission process and contact us.
